Howl (2010)

Director – Rob Epstein, Jeffrey Friedman

Starring – James Franco, David Strathairn, John Hamm, Jeff Daniels, Mary-Louise Parker, Bob Balaban, Treat Williams

What’s it all about? – A combination of Allan Ginsberg talking about his life, animated scenes of his poem and the obscenity trial that followed the release of his poem ‘Howl’

Notes and scribbles

  • Was unaware of this story, and the poem, and Allan Ginsberg if I’m honest.
  • Animated scenes inspired by Ginsberg and his poem Howl.
  • Mixture of interview, courtroom, animation combined with the reading of the poem.
  • Thought Franco was really good, should probably see if there’s Ginsberg stuff online to make a comparison.
